A guide for local business owners
How to fix wrong hours and details on Google, Apple Maps and Yelp
A customer sees that you are open, arrives at a locked door and leaves. Or they call a number you stopped using. Wrong business details create a problem before anyone reaches your team. You can work through the main listings yourself. Start with a reliable record of the facts, update each platform, and check what the public can actually see.
1. Prepare one correct version
Write down the business name customers know, the address or service area, the public phone number, the website and the hours for each day. Include breaks between opening periods. Keep holiday changes separate from the normal weekly schedule. For each location, use its own record so that one branch's hours do not overwrite another's.
Confirm the details with whoever runs the location. A salon's appointment hours may differ from the time staff answer the phone. A shop may offer pickup after the sales floor closes. Explain those differences on your website, and use the relevant service fields where a platform provides them. Do not stretch the main hours to suggest a service is available when it is not.
Save links to the public listings and take screenshots of the errors. A simple note with the platform, wrong detail, requested correction and date is enough. Fix your own website too, so someone reviewing a listing change can find matching information there.
2. Correct the Google Business Profile
Use the Google account that manages the business. Open the Business Profile, choose Edit profile, change the relevant fields and save. Google may require verification before changes can be made. Follow Google's editing guide if the controls or account access differ from what you expect.
For the weekly schedule, open the hours controls and enter each day's opening and closing times. If you close during the day, use separate periods. For example, a restaurant serving lunch and dinner should show the break between them. Google's business hours instructions cover split hours and overnight schedules.
Use Special hours for holiday or other date-specific changes instead of replacing your normal week. Mark a full-day closure where appropriate and save the dates. Google's special hours guide explains the available controls. Recheck the public profile after the edit; a submitted change is not the same as a verified public correction.
3. Correct Apple Maps details
Start with the Apple Business Connect help guide; Apple's current location instructions use the name Apple Business. Sign in with an account allowed to manage locations. Under Brands, choose Locations, find the correct location and select it. Use Apple's location editing instructions to update the information that has changed.
Check normal hours first, then any temporary or service hours. Apple's location attributes and hours guide distinguishes these schedules and explains the place card preview. Use temporary hours for a dated exception, such as a holiday closure. Compare the preview with your reference sheet, then check the public place card in Apple Maps.
If your location is not in your account, use Apple's location setup and management transfer instructions. Follow the existing-location process where applicable. Do not create another location just because you cannot edit the first one.
4. Correct the Yelp business page
In Yelp for Business on the web, open Business Information. Choose Edit beside the section you need, enter the correction and select Save Changes. Yelp's general information instructions also cover the app and public edit suggestions. Yelp says owner updates can appear immediately but remain subject to moderation and may be rejected later.
Use the normal weekly hours for the regular schedule. Check the public name, category, phone and website as well. Yelp's business information guidelines explain what belongs in those fields. Keep the entry factual and use the business name customers recognize.
A move or closure needs more care than a typo. Follow Yelp's substantial business changes instructions for that situation. Keep a link to supporting information on your website so the change can be checked.
5. Verify the result and leave a record
Open each listing as a customer would, outside the editing screen. Compare the hours, address and phone with your reference sheet. Tap the website link and confirm it leads to the right business and location. Check a map pin against the actual customer entrance where possible. Save a new screenshot when a correction is visible.
Leave unresolved items on your list with their current status. If a change is pending or rejected, read the platform's explanation and use its support route with the listing link and evidence. Repeatedly changing unrelated fields makes it harder to know what worked. Do not mark the whole job complete because one platform looks right.
Give one person responsibility for checking the list before holidays and whenever hours, contact details or locations change. A short recurring check is easier than reconstructing several months of conflicting updates. It also gives your team a clear answer when a customer points out something wrong.
